The whole process was rather dramatic. My bunk mate Boon Ping was the horse of the platoon ever since we enlisted, he ran a 10.44 when we enlisted so all the way he was leading the 2.4 with NO competition at all… I tried to pace him several times but never did succeed.
And the reason I went in early was because of my 2.4… I ran a 13 flat on the 1st diagnostic.
On the day of the last IPPT my commanders constantly told me to get the gold because from the last test I was only 19 secs away so I was quite hot liao, plus I was the platoon IC for the few days, the stress really was on me. When the run came I ran like no tomorrow, literally.
Then came the pass… I, for the 1st time overtook the platoon fastest and it was his words that pushed me further “go go go Chi Heng, you can do it”.
Never expected that and it really touched me, then it was my PC that ran 1 minutes earlier with the detail ahead, he told me to push harder and finally it was one of my sergeants, SG Chin he was telling the detail before me it was 9:45 (gold cut off) for his detail that is when I knew I did it… last burst of fire to the end line.
The feel of getting a gold is ultimate… And that night I couldn’t sleep much, really was too high liao, still pretty high now I guess…
